First of all, I’d like to express my deep appreciation to Craig Crossen. His book Binocular Astronomy first inspired my interest in understanding the 3-D nature of the Galaxy and the locations within and around it of the deep sky objects observed by amateur astronomers.
Ken Croswell’s book The Alchemy of the Heavens was also instumental in helping me understand the structure of the Milky Way. It is a fantastic book and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
