Drag and Drop

With Parsnips, you can easily create new items using information you drag and drop onto the application. You can drop the information on either the drop window or on the Results Pane in the left of the main window.

How the item is created depends on what is dragged and dropped:

  • If you drag a text file onto Parsnips, the file's contents will be used in creating the new item and the file's name will be used for the title.
  • If you drag a directory or folder onto Parsnips, all files at the top level of that directory will be used for creating new items. If the directory contains subdirectoried, you will be asked if subdirectories should be indexed as well.
  • If you drag a web location onto Parsnips, the web page will be downloaded and the contents will be used in creating the item. The web page's title will be used for the item's title.
  • If you select text in another application and drag it into Parsnips, an item with that text will be created. The item's initial title will be taken from the first line of the text.

Of course you can also create new items by choosing the New Item command and entering the text by hand or via cut and paste.

[Note: Drag and drop functionality may not be available when Parsnips is running on certain Linux distributions.]
